The Toronto Venture Exchange: A world-class stock exchange located in the economically friendly, resource-rich Canada. It is owned by the TMX Group, the same company that owns the Toronto Stock Exchange. The Toronto Stock Exchange is the 7th largest stock exchange in the world by market capitalization. The Venture Exchange is where emerging companies, in their early stages of development, are listed. In essence, they are “juniors”. See it as a public venture capital marketplace for companies.
The stocks listed on the TSX-V are what are considered to be “penny stocks”, “microcaps”, or “small caps”. In the US, the SEC defines a penny stock as any stock under $5. Because these stocks are different from the regular large-cap “blue chip” stocks, and this is very different from a regular stock exchange, it is important to approach these stocks differently as well. There is a lack of information on companies like these, which is why we exist. We will get into further detail about valuing these stocks in the Company tab.
